Signing of MoU to implement UNESCO funded five projects under the Participation Programme – 2020/2021 was successfully held on 18th Feb. 2022 at the Ministry of Education, “Isurupaya” premises with the gracious presence of Hon. Dinesh Gunewardena, Minister of Education/ Chairman of the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO and Prof. Kapila Perera, Secretary of Education/ Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO.

Representing the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO Prof. Kapila Perera singed the MOUs with Dr. Upali Sedera, the State Secretary of the State Ministry of Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Learning Promotion and Mr. E.A. Senarath Wickramasinghe, Director (Cultural) of the Dept. of National Museums while awarding three projects to the divisions of the Ministry of Education to implement island-wide.

The five projects namely, Simulation study of the Feasibility of Redevelopment of Public School Teachers in Sri Lanka, Re-production of Three Rare Publications, published by Department of National Museums- Sri Lanka,  Science Popularization in Schools, Revival of the UNESCO Associated School Network in Sri Lanka and Inter-Regional ASPNet Initiative led by the Sri Lanka ASPNet on Learning for Empathy with ASP Networks of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan and Japan submitted by the GOSL were approved and funded by UNESCO Headquarters in 2021 amounting to USD 105,000 with the purpose of developing UNESCO crosscutting areas in the Country.

Mr. W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara, Secretary General of the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO (Acting), Ms. Himali Jinadasa- Country Focal Point of UNESCO, Mr. Prithiviraj Perera- Former Secretary General of  the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO and fore front officers of the Ministry of Education were participated at this momentous occasion.
